Tom Hiddleston believes he hasn’t fully explored Loki’s wonderful mission. The actor recently talked about his past with the character, which spans from the Disney+ series Loki to the Marvel blockbusters Thor. During the conversation, Hiddleston clarified that the sibling of the God of Thunder still has a lot to learn. Hiddleston and the other members of the cast of the upcoming movie The Life of Chuck were interviewed by Collider. Adapted on a Stephen King novel, albeit not strictly a horror film like most of his works, the film stars Hiddleston as the title character, Chuck, an apparently average accountant who starts popping up everywhere. Mike Flanagan, the film’s director, also stars Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), and Karen Gillian (Dr. Who, Jumanji). In the interview, Hiddleston was questioned about if Season 2 gave the character and actor a sense of closure or if a third season of Loki may be possible. “In the initial stages of conceptualizing Loki as a television series, we were aware that we would be tackling a unique and distinct project compared to all of my previous work,” Hiddleston remarked. “This was both thrilling and respectful of the previous endeavors, including the three Thor films and the Avengers films I had starred in.” We knew we wanted to face this antihero head-on while we were building the universe of the TVA, an organization that asserts its authority over time.”
That’s exactly what occurs in Season 2 of Loki, when the show’s main trickster, Loki, must deal with spaghettification, time-slipping, and purpose. In the second season of Loki, the formerly evil Asgardian deity took on the role of rescuing every timeline. Timelines are disappearing if the TVA isn’t there to sustain them. Loki holds himself accountable for resolving the problems with the branching histories when he gains control over his power to travel across time. He keeps trying and failing until he finds a solution. He weighs the options of preserving He Who Remains, also known as Kang, and allowing his holy timeline to come to pass, or allowing the TVA to be destroyed. But Loki makes the ultimate sacrifice by assuming the throne at the end of time and using his own strength to power the timelines, which has a striking resemblance to the Norse Yggdrasil. Hiddleston did make the suggestion that both as a character and as a series, Loki has a lot more territory to cover. He’s a figure who has been around for about 3,000 years; to scratch the surface, he represents unpredictability, boundary-crossing, disruption, and the question mark, the actor says. Therefore, I believe there are a thousand things I haven’t done that I should do if I ever have the chance to play the role again. He changes all the time, just like the rest of us.
