The Sam Raimi-directed Marvel Studios Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness debuts in 4,534 theaters and eyeing $85 million plus (including Thursday’s paid previews & Friday). The actual numbers are yet to come at desk, but this is no surprise. Fan following for Marvel Movies is humongous and how the studio keeps the secret ingredients until the public release of Movie, plays perfectly for them.
Many believe Doctor Strange 2 has a shot at $190M-$200M, but if frontloaded ticket sales set in, then we could be looking more at a $180M 3-day.
Critics aren’t as wowed by this sequel as they were with the first one, with 77% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes compared with 89% Certified fresh on the 2016 edition. Doctor Strange 2 is also significantly below the last Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which garnered 93% certified fresh
