The animated series X-Men ’97, which debuted in November 2021, is a continuation of the Fox Kids Network series X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired on Fox Kids Network for five seasons and 76 episodes between October 1992 and September 1997. It picks up a few months after the events in that series’ “Graduation Day” series finale. While the specifics of the narrative are mostly unknown, it has been said that Charles Xavier’s assassination attempt in the series finale sparked a “wave of increased sympathy towards mutants and understanding.” Magneto joining the titular squad and Mister Sinister serving as the main enemy are other known plot points. Ten episodes make up the first season of X-Men ’97, which is presently slated to debut on Disney+ in the beginning of 2024. Marvel has previously revealed that a second season is in the works, although it is unclear when it will premiere. The first X-Men project from Marvel Studios following the company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox’s film and television rights to the characters is X-Men ’97.

Several voice performers from X-Men: The Animated Series, notably Lenore Zann as Rogue, will appear in X-Men ’97. Recently, Zann discussed playing the beloved mutant once more in X-Men ’97, stating that it was “fantastic to get this opportunity to re-inhabit the character of Rogue.” I’m thankful to the fans for their steadfast support of our original series, as well as for my performance, which has made this possible, she said. Beau DeMayo, the showrunner, and Charley Feldman, the supervising producer from X-Men ’97, have to thank for requesting I return as Rogue. She also hinted at what viewers should anticipate from X-Men ’97, saying, “As usual, Rogue will experience a lot in X-Men ’97. She is a passionate lady, just like myself, who can’t help but show out her emotions. Therefore, prepare yourself for a rough trip by fastening your seatbelts.
