According to reports, Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as an epic climax to both the Marvel Cinematic world and every Marvel film that has been made independently of the shared world. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has opted to make Secret Wars “the send-off to not only the current MCU, but to all the Marvel movies that came before Iron Man,” according to reliable insider CanWeGetSomeToast on X. The ultimate reboot is here. Additionally, the scooper says that this is being done to “make way for something All New, and All Different,” which is a reference to the branding Marvel Comics utilised between 2015 and 2019 for their roster of comic books that were set after the 2015–16 Secret Wars crossover event.
Marvel Studios has started to tease the next crossover event, even though no cast or plot information for Avengers: Secret Wars has been officially revealed, so fans should take the aforementioned rumour with a grain of salt. With its end-credits sequence referencing a coming “incursion,” a phrase taken from the 2015 Secret Wars comic book narrative that is used to characterise two universes that are destined to clash, the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to set up the Secret Wars plot. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will play their respective Spider-Mans in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, which marks the beginning of Marvel Studios’ practise of recasting former Marvel actors who previously appeared outside of the MCU for significant parts in its films. Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was later revived in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Deadpool 3 is rumoured to include several X-Men cameos as well as Jennifer Garner as Elektra. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, and Secret Wars is rumoured to include Wolverine prominently. Maguire, Garfield, and Ian McKellen as Magneto are a few more venerable performers who are rumoured to make a comeback for Secret Wars.
As of this writing, Avengers: Secret Wars has no director attached. Sam Raimi (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Shawn Levy (Deadpool 3) are apparently Marvel’s top choices for the position. Levy coyly addressed the rumour when attending TIFF 2023, stating, “I read that rumour, and that’s all I’m gonna say,” despite the fact that the latter hasn’t replied to the rumours. Former rumours of Ryan Coogler (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) being in the hunt for the coveted role were also circulated, but he has since called them “crazy.”
