Vanessa Fisk’s recasting in Daredevil: Born Again has been confirmed by Marvel

For the new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, no fewer than three fan favourites from the original Daredevil series will return, although a major recasting makes it unclear how the two relate to one another. Daredevil: Born Again, which was in development for many months this year before being put on hold as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, will resurrect Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, and Charlie Cox as Daredevil. The adored wife of Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk, Vanessa Fisk, was reportedly replaced, according to a March article. Vanessa will now be played by Sandrine Holt, not the original Daredevil actress Ayelet Zurer, according to a new copyright listing at the U.S. Copyright Office for the pilot episode of Daredevil: Born Again. It’s still unknown if Daredevil: Born Again is effectively Season 4 of Daredevil or a brand-new plot with recurring actors portraying different versions of their characters. Marvel and Disney have been mum about this new series. The copyright listing noticeably omits fan favourites like Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and their individual characters, making it unclear whether these characters will be featured in any way. It’s also important to note that the original Vanessa Fisk actress, Ayelet Zurer, stated in a since-deleted Instagram post that she was “sad to not take part,” implying that she was unaware of the recasting.

Through its pilot synopsis, which teases how “longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Cox) and Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them,” the series has revealed a few facts about its plot. We are reintroduced to the Daredevil universe in the first episode of the series. This is significant because although D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Cox’s Daredevil have both previously made appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they haven’t yet worked together because they were involved in separate projects. Prior to making a further surprise appearance in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Cox initially made a surprise cameo appearance in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the Hawkeye series, D’Onofrio made a comeback as Kingpin, and he is anticipated to make an appearance in the planned spinoff series Echo.
