Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy and I Am Groot have garnered eight nominations for Children’s and Family Emmys. The second annual Children’s and Family Emmy Awards are scheduled for 2023; the nominated list was made public on November 2. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was nominated for seven awards, including Outstanding Achievements in Fiction Special, Directing for a Single Camera Programme, Music Direction and Composition for a Live Action Programme, Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design, Costume Design/Styling, Hairstyling and Makeup and Stunt Coordination for a Live Action Programme, and so on, according to Marvel. I Am Groot from Marvel Studios was also nominated for an Outstanding Short Form Programme. The awards event has not yet been scheduled. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four came to an end with the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on November 25, 2022. The Guardians squad travelled to Earth in the 42-minute special in search of the ideal gift for team captain Peter Quill (Star-Lord). James Gunn wrote and directed the Disney+ special, which stars Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff also return to their respective roles. The band Old 97’s and Kevin Bacon, playing a fictionalised version of himself, are also featured in the show.
Kirsten Lepore’s animated shorts, titled “I Am Groot,” were made available on Disney+ and follow Groot, a member of the Guardians squad, on adventures that take place following the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. For the shorts, Vin Diesel returned to his role as Baby Groot’s voice. A second season is scheduled to premiere in September 2023. The first season, which included five episodes, was published in August of last year. Launched in 2022, the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards are a distinct ceremony from the Daytime Emmy Awards, which previously showcased children’s and family-friendly programmes. The Emmys introduced the stand-alone extension in response to a 23% rise in family- and children’s programming in the previous two years. Later on in the week, information on the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards ceremonies will be made public.
