Blade reboot in the MCU receives an unexpectedly adult rating

Even though the Blade revival from Marvel Studios is still a ways off from going into production, director Yann Demange has already hinted at some of the novel ways in which it would challenge the status quo in the MCU. A question on the next Blade revival was posed to Demange in a recent interview for Dammi, which screened at the Toronto Film Festival. The Writer’s Guild of America strike and the continuing SAG-AFTRA strike have caused several delays for the picture, but Demange is optimistic about the production. The filmmaker claims that the remake would be R-rated in addition to giving star Mahershala Ali an opportunity to display his savagery on screen. “They gave me the R, which is so important,” remarked the man.

The director continued to compliment Ali, describing him as a “deep actor,” and said that the two of them are eager to enjoy themselves on the movie. We’re going to enjoy ourselves with Blade since Mahershala is such a talented performer. I’m eager to demonstrate the brutality and roughness that enable him to go throughout the planet in a specific manner,” he said. “For that, I adore him. Although he exudes dignity and integrity, he also harbours a fierceness that he normally keeps hidden. That’s something I want to let go and show on television.” During San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made the initial announcement that Ali has signed on to play the Daywalker. The movie has seen many setbacks since then. The film has not only had a director and writer change, but the Hollywood strikes have also forced the project to be put on hold. The Blade remake is currently scheduled to premiere in theatres on February 14, 2025. That will, however, depend on when the movie’s actual production begins.
