Scarlett Johansson responds to rumours of a Black Widow MCU comeback

Scarlett Johansson, who portrays Black Widow, downplays the likelihood that her character would make a spectacular return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while she prepares to develop a film for the same universe. Johansson addressed the speculation in an interview that Natasha Romanoff may make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her tragic death in Avengers: Endgame. Johansson dismissed the notion that Black Widow would ever make an unexpected reappearance, even as she reiterated the character’s inevitable end in the shared world. Johansson responded to an interviewer who asserted that Marvel “always finds a way” to revive characters, saying, “I think it might be… I think it was the end, right? I don’t know how you come back from that.” In Endgame, Black Widow gives herself up at Vormir in order to get the Soul Stone, saving Hawkeye’s family as well as the Avengers’ future in their battle to reverse Thanos’ snap. Johansson claimed that because the character’s demise was so final, it would require a “miracle” for Black Widow to rationally return. Johansson responded, “I would have…it would be a miracle,” when asked whether she would bring the character back to life. It would genuinely be a marvel of Marvel. It would be incredible. But who knows, you know? I’m not sure, huh.

After a protracted tenure that began with 2010’s Iron Man 2, Johansson announced in April that she was leaving the MCU. Her MCU climax came in the critically acclaimed 2021 Black Widow prequel picture. She sued Disney, however, after the film bombed at the box office and debuted concurrently onDisney+. Later on, Johansson and Disney reached a settlement over the issue; according to estimates, the renowned actor may have collected as much as $40 million. Despite Natasha Romanoff’s departure from the MCU, Johansson remains connected to the film industry since she is working on a top-secret Marvel project. Marvel CEO Kevin Feige promised MCU fans at The Marvels global premiere that the project—which Johansson had already confirmed earlier this year—will go forward, but he wouldn’t go into any details about the project or a possible release timeframe. Johansson is now working on the next space race movie Project Artemis, for which she is also an executive producer. She also acted in Asteroid City and North Star this year. Before Chris Evans departed the project and Channing Tatum took his place, Johansson was supposed to work on Project Artemis alongside the other founding member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans.
