With a funny victory speech, the Deadpool actor shocked audiences by introducing himself as “The Merc With a Mouth.” The 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes took place over the weekend, reigniting Hollywood’s awards season. AFC Wrexham, a football team owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, was featured in the sports documentary Welcome to Wrexham, which took home a major Creative Arts Emmy. In keeping with his ongoing joke in which Deadpool refers to Reynolds as a different person and not the actor who plays him, Deadpool welcomed the speech and jokedly referred to Reynolds as “Mr. Lively,” a reference to the actor’s wife Blake Lively.

The series covers their journey and the team’s performance during their ownership, despite their lack of prior experience managing a sports team. With five Emmy Awards, the documentary highlighted the couple’s goals to inspire the team and have a good influence on the Wrexham community.
