Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse scooped home a significant award at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Best Animated Feature went to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at the Sunday night awards presentation. To win the title, one had to defeat The Boy and the Heron, a critically regarded film by Hayao Miyazaki, as well as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Elemental, Nimona, and Wish. The movie was nominated for Best Visual Effects and Best Score, but lost to Oppenheimer in both categories.

The Boy and the Heron won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, which was one of three nominations for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that were announced the week before. In addition, Across the Spider-Verse is a nominee for Best Animated Picture at the Saturn Awards and the Satellite Awards, and it is a front-runner for the People’s Choice Award, which will be given out in February. Although the official Oscar nominations have not yet been out, Across the Spider-Verse is probably going to be nominated there as well. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson directed the animated film, and Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham wrote the script. Along with Christina Steinberg, Amy Pascal, and Avi Arad, Lord and Miller produced. In addition to Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Velez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, and Oscar Isaac, the voice cast of Miles Morales is led by Shameik Moore.

With almost $690 million made worldwide, the movie was a big success at the box office. It also received a lot of praise from reviewers and viewers alike when it was released. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 94% audience score and a 95% acceptance rating. Following the first movie’s $384 million box office haul and respective Rotten Tomatoes audience and reviewer scores of 97% and 94%, it carried on the intended trilogy’s success. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third and final episode in the Spider-Verse series, is scheduled to release soon. The movie was initially scheduled for release in 2024, however Sony withdrew it from distribution in the summer of 2023. Although a new release date has not yet been announced, the project is currently making progress.
