Cinematographer Kira Kelly provides a depressing update on Echo’s prospects of getting a Season 2 renewal, despite positive reviews for the first season. Kelly talks about the possibility of Echo coming back for Season 2 in an interview. The grittier Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries continued to explore Maya Lopez’s (Alaqua Cox) path after the events of Hawkeye. Kelly is certain that Echo Season 2 will be the next step for Cox’s titular character, even though she is hopeful that viewers will see more of Cox in the MCU. “I have my doubts about it. I think the world—you know, whatever that Alaqua Cox can show us would be incredible. Whether she’s going to be in the upcoming season of Daredevil or any other show, or if she’s going to be in another one altogether. She remarked, “I would just love any excuse to see Alaqua perform again.”

Although there is little possibility that Echo will get a second season, viewers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can probably expect to see Cox reprise her role as Maya in Daredevil: Born Again. According to insider rumours, Cox will star in the new series. A battle between Charlie Cox’s character, Matt Murdock, and Maya was featured in Echo Season 1, a scene that received mixed responses from fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Maya tries to get over her history with the Tracksuit Mafia and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), the Echo series builds on the events from the Disney+ miniseries and leans into Maya’s malevolent demeanour. Cox previously played Echo in Hawkeye. In the series, Maya goes back to Oklahoma to reunite with her Native American heritage and spend time with her family. However, Kingpin finds her there, and they wind up forging a shaky alliance to defeat a shared foe. Following the release of all five of the series’ episodes on January 9, Echo concurrently topped the Disney+ and Hulu viewership lists. On Rotten Tomatoes, the debut Marvel Spotlight programme received a “fresh” 71% critical rating; however, its audience score is just 61%.

Kelly wasn’t the only one who disclosed that co-creator David Mack of Echo is uncertain if the miniseries would be renewed. Mack stated, “I hope that there is more Echo, I shouldn’t say more than that,” in an interview conducted earlier this month. “I’m hoping for a second season. She should definitely appear in more films and TV series, in my opinion. Echo is the third MCU programme to air in Phase 5, after Season 2 of Loki and Secret Invasion. It’s the first TV-MA-rated series in the history of the MCU, and since future MCU films like Deadpool 3 and Born Again feature similar themes, it heralds a progressive change in tone for the cinematic universe.
