From Spider-Verse to MCU: Kevin Feige’s interest in animation explored

Spread MCU News

The success of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and its sequel, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” has reportedly caught the attention of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Feige is said to be interested in exploring animation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Richtman suggested that there may be an animated MCU movie in the works, and there could be additional seasons of the Disney+ animated series “What If…?” Although these claims have not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, fans can still look forward to the upcoming animated shows that have already been announced.

While we await official confirmation of Feige’s interest in expanding the MCU through animation, there are several exciting animated projects already in development. The upcoming third season of “What If…?” will feature Sam Wilson, and a spin-off titled “Marvel Zombies” is also in the works, focusing on the zombified universe depicted in the first season’s “What If… Zombies!?” episode. In addition, there are two non-“What If…?” series on the horizon. “X-Men ’97,” continuing the story of the beloved ’90s animated series “X-Men: The Animated Series,” is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024. Meanwhile, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” formerly known as “Spider-Man: Freshman Year,” will explore Peter Parker’s early high school days and is expected to debut this year.

The presence of these animated projects in the MCU indicates the potential for further expansion in this medium. If successful, it may indeed lead to the realization of Feige’s rumored desire to do more with animation within the franchise. Fans can look forward to a dynamic blend of animated and live-action content as the MCU continues to evolve and diversify its offerings.
