Disney+ released an episode of Netflix’s R-rated series The Punisher with a new title. In 2017 and 2019, Marvel Television produced two seasons of The Punisher for Netflix, starring Jon Bernthal in the title character. Since then, the show has shown on Disney+ and been formally accepted into the MCU canon, one year ahead of Frank Castle’s 2025 comeback in Daredevil: Born Again. Disney+ Gives Netflix’s The Punisher Episode a New Title

The title of The Punisher Season 2, Episode 10 when it debuted on Netflix on January 18, 2019, was “The Dark Hearts of Men.” After the episode was transferred to Disney+ and formally accepted into the MCU canon, it was given a new title. The Punisher’s episode that airs on the streaming service on April 4th is now titled “The Hearts of Men,” with the word “Dark” mysteriously removed from the title.

In this episode, Ben Barnes’ Billy Russo, also known as Jigsaw, is attacked by Frank Castle. After that, he brutally beats the villain in his chase before foiling the whole trap. The Marvel Netflix series “The Dark Hearts of Men” has undergone several changes from Disney+. This is not the first time. For its three seasons, the once-named television show Jessica Jones was renamed AKA Jessica Jones on the title screen; but, oddly, the change was not displayed on the Disney+ home page.

Why Was The Punisher Episode Retitled on Disney+?

Similar to Jessica Jones’ rebranding, it’s difficult to pinpoint the precise motivation behind Disney+’s decision to title a Punisher episode. It’s possible that the Disney streamer found the chilly and heartless meanings of “Dark Hearts” too much, although it’s difficult to believe considering the series’ extreme violence, profanity, and cruelty. On the other hand, it’s possible that the apparent deliberate title change was an error made when the R-rated series was posted to Disney+. Nevertheless, when Jon Bernthal takes on the anti-hero role on Disney+ next year, it will be interesting to see how The Punisher could factor into Daredevil: Born Again and other upcoming MCU productions.
