After almost ten years since he last portrayed the superhero in 2017’s Logan, Hugh Jackman, actor of Deadpool & Wolverine, talked candidly about his experience taking on the role of Logan/Wolverine again. The planned film from Marvel Studios is the first official live-action X-Men film and its first R-rated production. In an interview, Jackman talked about how exciting it was to show off a completely different aspect of his well-known character in Deadpool & Wolverine. Additionally, he talked about how much fun it was to work on the third part of the critically acclaimed Deadpool trilogy alongside director Shawn Levy and one of his closest friends, Ryan Reynolds, with whom he has previously cooperated on many projects. “I instinctively knew that Deadpool was going to allow us to get to a different side of the Wolverine character than I’ve ever played before, in every way, from emotion, humor, dialogue, and action.” He stated.
Jackman went on, “It all seemed brand-new to me. And two of my closest friends, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, would be sharing it with me. Together, the three of us resemble the Three Amigos. I couldn’t have laughed myself to tears every single day. I was so refreshed while I was in the role. I mean, it feels better than ever after 25 years, dude.” In the same interview, Reynolds and Levy disclosed that they had trouble coming up with the ideal plot for the highly anticipated anti-hero’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as a result, Deadpool 3 was on the verge of being shelved permanently. Nevertheless, the film was ultimately rescued because to Jackman’s unexpected involvement.
“I felt so rejuvenated playing the part. I mean, I’m 25 years in, man, and it feels better than ever.”
“I’d want to work on this film. My bones tell me so. My instinct tells me so.” Jackman remembered. “And Ryan said, ‘I can’t believe the timing because we were about to have a meeting, and I’m not sure where we’re at.'” Reynolds went on, “We just cut right to the fucking chase on the Zoom with Kevin Feige. “Hey, look, this call just came in,” we said. To look this gift horse in the mouth and dismiss it, in my opinion, would be foolish. This is a really rare opportunity. I really believe that we have found what we have been searching for.”
Just in time for the highly anticipated theatrical release of Deadpool & Wolverine on July 26, 2024, Reynolds announced a week ago that post-production had been concluded on the film. The movie actor collaborated closely with Levy on the project’s editing stages. Aside from Reynolds and Jackman, the ensemble cast will feature Marvel alumni Aaron Stanford as John Allerdyce / Pyro from Fox’s X-Men franchise and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios from the 2003 and 2005 Elektra films. Returning Deadpool stars Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar will also be included. In addition, two new characters will be added to the MCU in the third installment: the villain Cassandra Nova and TVA Agent Paradox, who will be represented by Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen, the winners of the Golden Globes, respectively.
