Venom by Tom Hardy exposes The Comics’ true weakness forgot in Hot Ones Crossover, Spider-Man 2

As Venom: The Last Dance draws closer to its release, the Marvel antihero has been discussed in the movie’s promotional materials, tackling comic book flaws that previous ventures have chosen to ignore. From his 1988 debut in Spider-Man comics, Venom has been a well-liked figure in Marvel culture. The character has starred in several TV series and computer games, including one that attempted to sidestep one of the most noticeable flaws in the character, in addition to having his own film franchise. An animated version of Venom from the successful film trilogy can be seen eating hot chicken wings in a new video from the well-liked Hot Ones YouTube series. Notably, the video illustrates Venom’s susceptibility to heat and flames. Venom appears to get severely burned after eating the wings, as seen by his suffering throughout the video.

Notably, the video game Spider-Man 2, which debuted on the PlayStation 5 in 2023, does not include this aspect of Venom’s vulnerabilities. Although Venom is canonically weak to fire and high-frequency sounds, these flaws were eliminated in the PS5 version of the game. It caused considerable controversy when the creators decided to make Venom immune to fire. Based on this little preview, it doesn’t seem like this will be the case for the character in the movie.

Venom’s response to the wings on Hot Ones is a lighthearted promotional stunt for the next movie, albeit it may not have any deep significance. The concept of seeing a weak-to-fire symbiote is a brilliant and humorous addition to the popular chicken wing chat show. In this little clip, which serves as great promotion for The Last Dance, the very gloomy yet humorous tone of the Venom movie is encapsulated by the character’s powerful reactions and milk drinking. Clearly, Tom Hardy and the crew associated with the next picture, which Hardy announced to be his last Venom appearance, are attempting to remain authentic to the character. Only a natural comprehension of Venom and his abilities could give rise to even such a concept. Despite the unconventional treatment of the antihero in the films—whom they completely distance him from Spider-Man—it seems that the writers still believe that specifics like Venom’s vulnerability are essential to the story.
