The Scarlet Witch’s official death was secretly confirmed by Marvel.

If one secret tidbit in Agatha All Along is any indication, the Scarlet Witch is officially dead in the MCU. In her attempt to destroy the Darkhold in every world, Scarlet Witch collapsed the Darkhold Castle on top of herself, ultimately leading to her death at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Audiences speculated that she may have survived the trauma in a variety of ways, particularly because the Darkhold prophesy that states the Scarlet Witch would either govern or destroy the universe has not been fulfilled, therefore her death was met with a good degree of suspicion. After raising doubts about her death a few occasions, Agatha All Along added to this mistrust. Even though Agatha supposedly saw the Scarlet Witch’s body in Agatha All Along episode 1, her skepticism implied that she was aware of how painful her death was. In Agatha All Along episode 7, Billy Maximoff then asked if Wanda was indeed deceased, to which Agatha responded, “Yes.” No, perhaps. But in a statement that could have seemed unimportant if it hadn’t come from the leading expert on the subject, the permanence of her death was affirmed.

Rio Vidal’s actual identity as Death herself was still unknown when she was first featured as a cast member in Agatha’s own Westview hex in Agatha All Along episode 1. Nevertheless, Rio affirms, “That witch is gone, and all of the copies of the Darkhold with her,” while chatting with Agatha at a morgue that seems to house Wanda’s remains. Given that the Darkhold has been destroyed, this supports Rio’s use of the word “gone.” Later on, it became clear that Rio Vidal represents Death. Death knows quite well who is and is not “gone,” thus it seems that the issue has been resolved. In addition to being indicated, Rio’s power over the issue was demonstrated when she told Agatha that Billy, whose identity was still unknown at the moment, was not hers—that is, Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch. Rio’s confidence would have been based on her knowledge of who lives in her realm or any other type of afterlife in the MCU.

Scarlet Witch dies, yet she still comes back, just like the majority of other MCU characters in the Multiverse Saga. The fact that Scarlet Witch has variations throughout the multiverse, as demonstrated by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, makes it possible that any one of them may eventually take Earth-616 Wanda’s place. The most likely scenario for this would be Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to bring together versions from several multiverses on Doom’s Battleworld, or whatever Battleworld variation is employed. However, it seems more appropriate to highlight the Scarlet Witch’s comeback in Vision’s next solo series. With Wanda and her family playing a crucial role in the storyline of all three shows, this one will wrap up a trilogy that started with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. This might indicate that the threequel series will likely feature multiversal antics. However, it may also imply that Rio’s deliberate word choice—particularly her avoidance of the term “dead”—was wholly deliberate.
