Given that recent remarks from the director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film relate to earlier claims, I’m inclined to think that Sebastian Stan’s character, Bucky Barnes, may be biting the bullet in Thunderbolts*. Captain America, played by Chris Evans, is my favorite character in the MCU. Bucky Barnes has thus always held significance for me. One of the most thrilling aspects of the franchise has been watching Stan decide to remain in the MCU for such a long period. Bucky has been in some of the MCU’s greatest films, and a potential replacement for him may be on the horizon. In the cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which also include more intriguing characters from the past and present, as well as more current favorites like Yelena Belova and John Walker, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes is the longest-running MCU character. Unlike this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel’s Thunderbolts is not anticipated to be R-rated, but it is anticipated to tell a darker tale than the majority of MCU productions. Given that many of the team members have a lot of red on their ledger, it makes sense given their personalities. After an update, I’m afraid that might result in significant deaths, including Bucky’s.
What Thunderbolts* has in store for Bucky Barnes excites me. The character has so far made one of the most lasting effects on the trailers for Thunderbolts. In them, Bucky emerges as a Terminator-like entity that rides a motorbike and advances on the squad, easily eliminating everybody who stands in his path. In addition, Stan’s Marvel persona makes appearances in a number of intriguing settings, such as multiple Thunderbolts scenes, interactions with characters like Red Guardian, a gala event, and what looks to be a court trial. Bucky is going to be occupied with Thunderbolts. Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts, recently hinted to Bucky Barnes’s narrative in the MCU film. Although the filmmaker acknowledged the popularity of the joke about Bucky throwing his Vibranium arm in the dishwasher in the Thunderbolts teaser, the character’s narrative throughout the movie has far more nuance than merely such humorous moments. This is evident in Schreier’s recent remarks on the MCU: “Come for the dishwasher jokes, stay for the deep emotional journey.” Knowing that Bucky’s tale will have some depth rather than relying solely on his use for humorous or action-packed scenes is a comfort.
Schreier’s remarks, which hint that Sebastian Stan’s character Bucky Barnes will play a significant part in the team-up film, are both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. However, they increase my fear that Bucky may die. A previous Thunderbolts* news report is the main reason I believe Bucky is not secure. Prior to The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo being brought in for rewrites, The Hollywood Reporter stated back in February that the earlier iterations of the film’s screenplay focused on the protagonists embarking on a quest “that was supposed to end with their deaths.” I’ve been curious about who could have perished in early Thunderbolts* ever since I first learned about that previous story detail. According to filmmaker Jake Schreier’s remarks, Bucky was one of the people who may have died. I anticipate several deaths in the Marvel film because the Thunderbolts and DC’s Suicide Squad share a similar premise. It’s conceivable that smaller characters like Taskmaster and Ghost will perish in the next MCU movie. But without a significant death, a violent and sinister MCU debut would not be complete, which is why I think Bucky will play that part.
Sebastian Stan’s character has been on an arc that saw him go from a good guy to a weapon controlled by others to someone who wants to atone for his sins.
Schreier’s reference to Bucky’s “deep emotional journey” in Thunderbolts* may be a hint at his impending demise. After all, Sebastian Stan’s character has gone through a transformation from a fine man to a weapon under the hands of others to someone who wishes to make up for his transgressions. The way that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier examined Bucky’s remorse and his attempts to move on was fantastic. Bucky’s MCU narrative should conclude with him joining this group of outcasts and perhaps dying for them in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, continuing that emotional journey. Bucky’s stated role on the squad is the primary reason I think he could wind up dying for the rest of the Thunderbolts. Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, will be the team’s captain, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. It appears that Bucky will be the team’s field leader, responsible for making the difficult choices during missions, even though the task of putting together the anti-heroes and villains that make up the Thunderbolts was left to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who was revealed in Thunderbolts*’s trailers to have purchased Avengers Tower from Tony Stark.
I think Bucky’s exposed role on the Thunderbolts is the primary reason he could wind up dying for the rest of the squad. As the captain of the Thunderbolts, I think Bucky would do everything to save every member of his team, just as he has sacrificed everything on the field to support his closest friends, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. Bucky giving his life to save the others would be consistent with the emotional trip that filmmaker Jake Schreier had promised him. In addition, the MCU has already done it. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Star-Lord nearly perished, and Iron Man twice gave his life to save everyone. As a result, another MCU leader may pass away or come in contact with it.
