Everything you need to know about Sony’s Spider-Man Universe future is spotted in the Kraven the Hunter post-credits scene decision

Spread MCU News

One significant clue regarding the future of this franchise is the choice made regarding the inclusion of any credits scenes in Sony’s most recent Marvel film, Kraven the Hunter. By focusing on villains or lesser-known Marvel Comics characters, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe films have been trying to provide some counter-programming to Marvel Studios’ MCU since Venom debuted in 2018. Though Tom Hardy’s Venom films found an audience and were largely financially successful, the other films have failed miserably at the box office and with audiences. All of the films, however, have had difficulty connecting with reviewers. The absence of the game’s eponymous wall-crawler is one factor contributing to the lack of interest in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The most recent version of Spider-Man, portrayed by Tom Holland, is part of the MCU, and it appears that Marvel Studios makes the artistic choices about his appearances’ timing and location. Without Spider-Man, it’s hard to market films like Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven—all of whom are related to or antagonists of Spider-Man in the comics. This has resulted in lower profits for Venom: The Last Dance and two significant box office setbacks with Madame Web and Morbius. Now, after a few films featured other Marvel characters, it appeared as though the SSU could have a plan for the direction of the franchise after the Thanos-level villain Knull was presented in Venom 3. Nevertheless, there are no credits scenes in Kraven the Hunter that hint to the franchise’s future. The absence of credits scenes appears to support the rumors that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is gone for all practical reasons.

Kraven The Hunter

The last scene of Kraven the Hunter just shows Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven wearing the lion head vest the character wears in the comics, but it serves as the sole prelude to what the film could reveal to viewers about what might happen in the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Knull, Spider-Man, or any of the other characters that were first featured in earlier Sony Marvel films are not mentioned. Since Kraven the Hunter ends abruptly and there is no indication of where SSU is headed, it is reasonable to assume that the franchise has come to an end. One may argue that Kraven the Hunter made a wise choice by excluding credit sequences. The primary movie functions as a stand-alone feature because it has no overt references to Venom or previous SSU films. It would have been cheesy and undeserved to include a credits scene that linked it to the wider universe. Additionally, given the negative reception of the non-Venom SSU films, it would seem prudent for Sony to hedge their bets and wait for Kraven’s performance before deciding on Taylor-Johnson’s future in the Marvel series.

The report on Sony’s Spider-Man film future claims that the company isn’t working on any additional villain films like Venom or Kraven the Hunter at the moment. Rather, they are concentrating on the untitled Spider-Man 4 film for the MCU, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the impending third part of the Spider-Verse franchise, and the Spider-Man Noir TV series, which is a spinoff of the Spider-Verse series and stars Nicolas Cage. The best course of action for Sony, especially following a run of failures and disappointments, is to focus on these well-established titles that have done well in the past. Although it’s unclear if Kraven the Hunter will be another box office failure for Sony, the film’s future isn’t looking good because it debuted with a Rotten Tomatoes critic score as low as Madame Web and Morbius. Nevertheless, Sony has a number of interesting Marvel projects in the works, all of which are directly related to Spider-Man, including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, Beyond the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Man Noir.
