Patti LuPone explains why WandaVision Season 2 was not produced even though Marvel wanted it

Patti LuPone, who plays Lilia Calderu, explains why Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, turned down a second season of Scarlet Witch’s popular MCU series. With great popularity, WandaVision introduced the first wave of Disney* programs from Marvel Studios. Scarlet Witch’s co-starring role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, White Vision’s comeback in Vision Quest, and WandaVision’s spiritual sequel Agatha All Along—which followed Wanda Maximoff’s reincarnated son and her archenemy—were all made possible by the show’s high ratings and favorable reviews. Lilia Calderu star Patti LuPone said that Agatha All Along producer Jac Schaeffer turned down both WandaVision season 2 and Agatha All Along season 2, claiming, “I don’t do second seasons,” in an interview with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM podcast Andy Cohen Live. I declined their request to do a second season of Wanda Vision. LuPone also gives Jac Schaeffer a lot of credit and expresses optimism that they will collaborate on a project in the future. See Patti LuPone’s complete remarks below:

I answered, ‘But I wanted a second season.'” The creator, Jac Schaeffer, entered my trailer and said, ‘Patti, I’m only here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die.’ “I don’t do second seasons,” Schaffer stated. “They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision, but I didn’t,” she remarked. She does one-offs because she remarked, “There’s too much to write,” and I fervently hope and pray that I will get the opportunity to collaborate with her once again in the future because she is truly magical.

Although the narrative of WandaVision didn’t adhere to a conventional long-term episodic framework, the sitcom format it offered paid homage to TV comedy series from various eras. The prospect of Wanda Maximoff reviving her fake comedy life vanished as soon as her Westview fantasy broke. After her Westview family vanished in front of her and she intensified her wicked ambitions in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it is highly improbable that Wanda would make another hex, which would be necessary for WandaVision season 2. The idea of WandaVision being a stand-alone game makes sense. However, the conclusion of Agatha All Along episode 9 opened the possibility of a second season, with Agatha Harkness and Billy Maximoff getting back together to continue their trip. The narrative of Agatha All Along season two, which took place outside of Witches’ Road and focused on the hunt for Tommy Maximoff, might have been identical to that of season 1. Although they might continue their own tales in other characters’ television series and motion pictures, Agatha and Billy may not be able to appear in another series of their own due to Jac Schaeffer’s unwillingness to produce a second season. In hindsight, WandaVision’s stand-alone status makes it a far more significant MCU event, albeit being frustrating for those anticipating more of what made it so thrilling. Up until now, Marvel Studios has honored the distinctive characteristics of each MCU series. X-Men ’97 is already confirmed to span at least three seasons, and like WandaVision and Agatha All Along, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier only received one season before its two leads received their own movie follow-ups. Loki didn’t go beyond the two seasons it needed to tell Loki’s complete redemption arc at the TVA.
