In the near future, Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It appeared as though some of the beloved actors who embodied characters like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, the Punisher, and others may be leaving Netflix after all of its projects related to The Defenders Saga were canceled. But Marvel Studios has given them a fresh lease on life, and Bernthal plays Frank Castle in the cast of Daredevil: Born Again. There are other plans for the Punisher’s MCU adventure, despite rumors that he would feature in his own series following his return.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming at Marvel Studios, disclosed that Jon Bernthal is creating a Punisher Special Presentation for Disney+ in an interview with ComicBook.com (via @PoppedNews/Twitter).
The Punisher is close to Bernthal, but no further information was provided concerning the tale the project would portray. Given that Frank Castle is said to make several appearances in the first season of the new MCU TV series, the character is expected to be crucial to the plot of Daredevil: Born Again. Season 1 of the new Daredevil series will consist of nine episodes, and season 2 will begin production on Friday.
According to all reports, Daredevil: Born Again appears to be a hit for Marvel Studios. Season 2 of the show will begin filming before the first is even out, and Winderbaum has already hinted to the media that seasons three and later may be in the works. The news that Bernthal’s Punisher will have a separate project under Marvel Studios adds to this. Although it was not initially planned, the character’s success as a breakthrough star in The Defenders Saga led to the creation of Netflix’s The Punisher series. It appears that the studio intends to continue that in the MCU after Marvel seen what Bernthal does for Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again season 1. This demonstrates Marvel’s confidence in the Punisher’s function within the franchise. The anti-hero will therefore undoubtedly steal the show in the next MCU television series. The news that Bernthal will be returning for a Punisher Special Presentation rather than a new series is the most intriguing aspect of the announcement. Therefore, before Castle makes a comeback in season 2, the character’s project can fill the time between Daredevil: Born Again’s seasons. It’s no secret that the Multiverse Saga has drawn a lot of criticism to the MCU. As a result, I think that the MCU may be able to overcome its current adversity in the next years if it concentrates on its main characters in both films and television shows. That certainly applies to The Punisher, and it’s fantastic to see a Special Presentation featuring Jon Bernthal collaborating closely with Marvel on Frank Castle’s next move in the MCU. Although a Punisher series is something I would want to see in the future, this special is a great way to get things started.
