At the world premiere of Netflix’s The Electric State, held at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, the renowned filmmaking duo Joe and Anthony Russo provided an exciting preview of the upcoming Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027, respectively, these films are set to be shot back-to-back in London. Joe Russo humorously remarked to Deadline’s social media manager, Natalie Sitek, “It’s all in London, we’re shooting them fairly back-to-back, it’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see.” Despite the daunting workload, the brothers expressed their enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the challenging yet exhilarating nature of the story they are set to tell.

When questioned about potential crossovers with characters from the X-Men universe or Deadpool, Joe Russo remained coy, stating, “Who knows? I don’t know. I don’t know who we’re gonna see. I still don’t know.” Anthony Russo, on the other hand, playfully suggested that fans could use their imagination, saying, “If you close your eyes and use your imagination, you can see anyone you want. Whoever tickles your fancy.” This playful ambiguity has only fueled fan speculation about potential cameos and character integrations in the upcoming films.

Chris Pratt, star of Guardians of the Galaxy, who was also present at the premiere, added to the excitement by teasing a potential cameo. Pratt cheekily remarked that he “know[s]” fans would be thrilled to see his return. Joe Russo further hinted at the possibility of surprise appearances, stating, “Anybody in the Marvel bag could show up in this movie.” This has sparked widespread anticipation among Marvel fans, eager to see which beloved characters might make an appearance.

The Russo Brothers had previously discussed their approach to the new Avengers films with Empire, revealing that it took some time to view Avengers: Endgame as a launching point for further stories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Anthony Russo explained, “Really what happened was, we ended up stumbling upon an idea that activated all of us. You couldn’t see it coming until it came, and once it came it was like, ‘Well, that’s a story we need to tell.’” The brothers are re-teaming with screenwriter Steven McFeely, who, along with Christopher Markus, penned all their previous Marvel films. The announcement of Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise as the villain Doctor Doom, following his heroic death as Iron Man in Endgame, was a major highlight at last year’s Comic-Con, further building anticipation for the new Avengers saga.
