Bucky Barnes is the only MCU character in Thunderbolts* who I’ve noticed isn’t wearing a superhero outfit, and I believe the answers are in Captain America: Brave New World. Known for wearing one of the most famous and iconic MCU costumes while playing the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes has subsequently given up the mask after being gradually reoriented. Later films, like as Avengers: Infinity War, when he was supposedly acting in Wakanda under the White Wolf alias, also see him wearing a distinctive outfit. Bucky will next be seen on May 2 in Thunderbolts*. The teaser evidence suggests that Bucky, as the team’s captain, will have a major role to play. Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Ghost, and other down-and-out rehabilitated villains and antiheroes make up said crew, and Taskmaster appears to be the first to suffer a setback. However, Bucky appears noticeably lacking, even if his teammates are all decked out in their super-suits.
As Marvel Studios intensifies promotion for Thunderbolts*, a number of clips have already been made public. The film is scheduled for release in May. Bucky Barnes may be seen wearing a variety of clothes, including a complete suit, a leather jacket, a vest top, and an unremarkable t-shirt and jeans. Even while Red Guardian and his companions wear the garish outfits that go along with their superhero names, Bucky never appears to be wearing one of his own. Given that Bucky is presumably still friendly with Wakanda, the nation that created a long list of useful supersuits like Captain America’s, this is particularly perplexing. Because they allow the MCU’s dynamic ensemble of characters stand out and be easily identifiable in a fight, super-suits are almost sacred. The fact that these supersuits are used at least once every film is even a cliché. Although Bucky has been spotted wearing several easily identifiable outfits of his own, it’s very perplexing to observe that, despite clearly acting heroically throughout the Thunderbolts* teaser, he has given up visual connections to his super soldier abilities. However, Captain America: Brave New World provides a good explanation for his choice.
In Captain America, Bucky Barnes makes a short yet endearing appearance: Sam Wilson, the new captain of Brave New World, is going through another crisis of confidence after a close call with Joaquin Torres’ Falcon, his sidekick and buddy. In his hour of need, he consoles Sam by telling him that Wilson was given the shield and mantle by Steve Rogers due of his character. “You do your best,” is how Bucky ends his heart-to-heart. Steve provided them a cause for optimism. Sam answers, “Did your speechwriters help you with that?” “You give them something to aspire to.” Bucky then confirms that he is a candidate for political office by stating that he has a campaign event to attend. The fact that Bucky appears in the Thunderbolts* trailer attending a political meeting, where he mostly dons a regular suit, further suggests that he will succeed in his endeavor. Obviously, being an elected official is a very different thing than being a superhero, which is why I believe Bucky has given up his previous career.
As a congressman, it’s difficult to see Bucky Barnes doing superhuman tasks. Given his very inconsistent record as the Winter Soldier and his devastating role in Captain America: Civil War, I even find it hard to believe he was chosen at all. However, Bucky appears to have been successful in persuading the people to forget his previous crimes, so he won’t want to upset that particular boat by carrying on with his super-heroics after taking office. However, Thunderbolts* depicts him doing just that, implying that he has returned from retirement to save the planet once more.
“Should this be an unwitting return to form, I find it easier to believe why Bucky does not have a super-suit prepared.“
I find it simpler to understand why Bucky does not have a super-suit ready if this is an unintentional return to form. Trailer video offers us a good idea of why Bucky is coming out of retirement, but the exact cause is yet unknown. As they attend a party with artifacts from the Avengers’ many exploits, for instance, Bucky can be seen suspiciously observing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and de Fontaine can also be seen seeing Bob utilize his abilities. In reaction, it makes sense that Bucky will transform back into Thunderbolts*.
