Marvel must respond to a pressing query from a deleted scene involving Deadpool and Wolverine after confirming Channing Tatum’s gambit return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Although Channing Tatum’s character Gambit will make a comeback to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, his final appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine leaves one point unsolved. Tatum’s role as Gambit in Deadpool 3 allowed him to finally establish himself. It was thrilling to see the 21 Jump Street star make his debut as the Cajun mutant, particularly after his standalone Gambit film was abandoned following years of development purgatory. The fact that it wasn’t merely a cheesy cameo enhanced the occasion. Gambit demonstrated his energy skills and card tricks while receiving a fair amount of screen time. Many questioned whether Tatum’s Gambit will reappear or whether this was a one-time event following his collaboration with Deadpool, Wolverine, Elektra, Laura, and Blade. In a few years, the MCU will embark on its Mutant Saga, but Tatum is unlikely to be the primary Gambit in the MCU. But a deleted scene involving Deadpool and Wolverine hinted at his comeback, and Marvel has revealed the date of his next visit. Nevertheless, Marvel must address a crucial query about his comeback in Avengers: Doomsday.

The reintroduction of Gambit was hinted at via a deleted clip released by star, writer, and producer Ryan Reynolds shortly after the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. Gambit goes by alone in the aftermath of the altercation at Cassandra Nova’s hideout in the scenario. The ground is covered in debris, flames, and the remains of Toad and other deceased X-Men adversaries. Then, when Gambit turns around and stares up into the sky, the camera zooms in on his face. Gambit grins, and his eyes reflect a gateway, suggesting that someone is rescuing Tatum from the Void. Since Gambit is the only character in this scenario, Marvel is not hinting at the return of Dafne Keen’s Laura, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, or Jennifer Garner’s Elektra. But since they participated in this altercation and failed to flee with Wade Wilson and Logan, there’s a chance they may go back with him. They can yet make a comeback even though their inclusion in the Avengers: Doomsday cast was not confirmed. Anything is conceivable since Secret Wars is a gigantic collision across all of the Marvel realms.

The titular pair was shown leaping through a sling ring portal in the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser, implying that they were being summoned into a separate realm. Who opened the doorway for the two mutants became the subject of conjecture and hypotheses. This was deception, though, for Cassandra Nova activated the gateway after negotiating with Wolverine and Deadpool to return them to the Fox reality in exchange for their survival. After Wade and Logan destroy the Time Ripper, she too makes her way to the Fox universe, where she dies. Someone from a another dimension created a doorway for Gambit to escape because no one else has access to a sling ring since Cassandra fled the Void. Although the origin of this gateway is currently unclear, there are several possible suspects. In order to understand Gambit’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel must respond to the question of who it is. Since Tatum’s Gambit has virtually no memory of how he got into the Void, it could also be connected to his genesis tale.

The fact that Tatum’s Gambit isn’t joining the other Fox X-Men characters is another reason why the source of the gateway must be made public. Although the Fox world has never placed much emphasis on continuity, Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Tatum never played Gambit in this reality, while Kitsch only made one appearance. Given that he was purportedly born in the Void, Tatum’s Gambit isn’t joining the other X-Men on their journey to the MCU, but it also means that no one is aware of him. Tatum states in Deadpool & Wolverine that he is unsure of his origins. Since Tatum’s Gambit movie never happened, it’s a humorous joke, but it also implies that whomever opens the gateway for Gambit may be a member of his past. Only Wolverine and Deadpool are aware of his presence, meaning someone must be aware of Gambit’s identity and location. The way that Tatum’s Gambit is incorporated into the MCU will be intriguing, but it will be worthwhile to watch him engage with other X-Men characters in Avengers: Doomsday.
