Despite Easter eggs appearing in other MCU films, Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani is still waiting for word from Marvel Studios for a sequel.
Kumail Nanjiani, the actor of Eternals, claims that despite Easter eggs in previous Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, a sequel is still in the works.
The actor who portrays the superpowered Bollywood star Kingo in the MCU film discussed his long-held goal of appearing in the types of fantasy movies he grew up watching in the most recent edition of Total Film. Nanjiani is still waiting for a call from Marvel Studios to return for a sequel, despite oblique hints to future adventures of the immortal extraterrestrial species, such as a Kingo movie poster shown in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. “Yeah! You see, I have plans for today, listen. I’m not sure what their plans are “said Nanjiani.
He continued, “I would love to come back. But I’m sort of waiting to hear when or if that’s going to happen. I’m hoping I get to do more. I had a great time playing that character. It’d be a shame if he’s a sort of one-and-done. But, you know, the decision’s not mine to make.”
Marvel Studios has not formally confirmed Eternals 2 to be a part of Phases Five or Six since the first movie’s premiere in 2021. The agency and management team of Don Lee, who portrayed Gilgamesh, said in December that Eternals 2 will be one of the actor’s upcoming projects, thus this does not necessarily imply that the sequel is not being worked on. In addition, several of the first movie’s characters, including Kit Harrington’s Black Knight and Harry Styles’ Starfox, have been teased to show up in upcoming MCU movies.
Chloé Zhao, an Oscar-winning director, took the helm of the ambitious Marvel film Eternals, which focused on a diverse group of superheroes that had previously operated outside of the MCU. Despite the film’s aesthetic accomplishments, Eternals received mixed reviews and less money at the box office than anticipated. Despite the negative reviews and divided viewers, Nanjiani still loves Eternals.
“I love Eternals, I think it’s fantastic,” Nanjiani said. “It did bum me out that it was sort of divisive. I think it’s a very very, [director Chloé Zhao] made a very very ambitious, huge movie that’s very different from most comic book movies. She went for a really really high bar. Of course, it would’ve been great if every single person on Earth loved it, but I love it.”
