It’s possible that Marvel Studios will soon make a formal statement about Shang-Chi 2. With the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Phase 5 of the MCU is currently under way, and all signs point to the next appearance of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Shang-Chi 2, the follow-up to 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is the movie that Marvel Studios is apparently aiming to be released before The Kang Dynasty. According to earlier rumours, the Shang-Chi sequel was reportedly scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025. The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to arrive in theatres on May 2, 2025. Now that Fantastic Four has been confirmed to take that time slot, the publication of Shang-Chi 2 is uncertain. But, a sequel is undoubtedly in the works, and a recent story hinted that fans could learn more about it soon.
The creation of Shang-Chi 2 has reportedly begun, according to insider. The sequel has reportedly “been added to the Marvel Studios production schedule,” according to Walsh, meaning that the company is organising its development and potential filming. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has acknowledged that a first movie sequel was already in the works. Shang-Chi 2 was previously slated to start filming this year, according to a 2021 rumour, and a subsequent report stated that the sequel would be aiming for a February 14, 2025 release until Fantastic Four was verified to be taking that date.
It’s vital to keep in mind that Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed the original Shang-Chi movie, is now poised to helm both Shang-Chi 2 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, the Avengers’ two key commanders, died in Avengers: Endgame, as many fans are already aware. Although while some of the original team members, like Thor and Hawkeye, are still part of the MCU, it’s possible that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will opt for new leadership entirely once The Kang Dynasty arrives.
The self-titled 2021 movie, which showed how Shang-Chi overcame his father’s troubles while also catching the notice of Wong and Captain Marvel, served as the franchise’s introduction to the character. Although the plot of Shang-Chi 2 is still unknown, it may have a direct connection to The Kang Dynasty if Marvel Studios wants the film to be released before that one. In Avengers 5, the Avengers will require one or two key figures to lead the attack against Kang the Conqueror, as was already revealed. If Shang-Chi 2 does have a connection to that film, Shang-Chi may be among the top contenders to assume that leadership position, especially if he faces Kang in his own film.
The release date for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set for May 2, 2025.
