Marvel’s What If…? season 2 was already confirmed before the show’s launch, and here is all the company has said so far. What If…?, Marvel’s first animated series on Disney+, developed the multiverse theory first introduced with Loki while also extending the relationship between their TV shows and films. Nine episodes made up What If…? season 1, each of which considered the show’s name-brand query from a different perspective.
Other timelines (i.e. worlds) in the multiverse were first established in the animated anthology series What If…? as a result of major moments in the MCU’s main timeline playing out differently. What If…? assembled the Guardians of the Multiverse through The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) to stop Ultron’s multiverse conquest after launching standalone stories about Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) receiving the Super Soldier serum and becoming Captain Carter, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) becoming Star-Lord, and the recruits for the Avengers Initiative being killed.
Viewers have been curious about the show’s future since season 1 of What If…? ended. Critics praised the show, with one stating that “What If…? may not offer much to the bigger MCU plot, but new spins on familiar characters and some of the best action sequences in the entire franchise make for fascinating viewing” (Date from Rotten Tomatoes) Here is everything Marvel has said so far about What If…? season 2.
