Star Wars film by Kevin Feige is killed at the studio

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, and Michael Waldron, the writer of the popular Disney+ series Loki, were set to collaborate on an untitled Star Wars movie. The project was highly anticipated, but unfortunately, it has been shelved at Lucasfilm, as reported by Variety.

The Star Wars franchise has been struggling to find its footing since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. The studio has gone through countless creative plans and projects, leaving fans wondering what will come next. This latest setback only adds to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the franchise.

Feige and Waldron’s project was first announced in 2019, and the writer was officially recruited in May 2022. However, Waldron’s commitment to penning the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars for Marvel Studios has put a strain on the Star Wars project. Feige is also heavily involved in the upcoming Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), making it difficult for him to allocate time to the Star Wars project.

Deadline clarified that the Star Wars project is not “dead,” but rather not in active development at the moment. This news has left some fans hopeful that the project could be resurrected in the future once Feige and Waldron are free from their MCU commitments.

The untitled Star Wars project was described as a disconnected story with “family themes,” which was a promising concept for fans of the franchise. However, with Feige and Waldron’s focus on the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, it’s no surprise that their Star Wars collaboration has been put on hold.

Despite this setback, the Star Wars franchise still has multiple projects in the works. The only two confirmed release dates for the franchise are in December 2025 and December 2027. These dates are expected to be filled by the untitled projects from Taika Waititi and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, directors of Thor: Love and Thunder and Ms. Marvel, respectively.

The future of the Star Wars franchise remains uncertain, but fans are hopeful that the franchise will bounce back. With a dedicated fan base and a wealth of stories to tell, it’s only a matter of time before Lucasfilm finds its next blockbuster hit.
