In order to get a trial date for his continuing domestic violence case, Jonathan Majors shows up in court for the first time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe star is scheduled to stand trial on August 3, 2023, on the morning of Tuesday, June 6, in a courthouse in lower Manhattan, according to Variety. Majors allegedly arrived at the courthouse at 9:15 and then approached the bench for a brief status conference.
On March 26, 2023, Majors was detained in New York City on suspicion of domestic abuse following an altercation between the actor and his partner. Majors’ attorneys swiftly released a statement reiterating his innocence, but he was almost immediately fired from many projects. One of them involved Majors serving as the face of the most recent edition of the United States Army’s enduring “Be All You Can Be” advertising campaign.
Majors’ talent manager at Entertainment 360 also let him go, and insiders claim that the actor’s “personal behaviour” played a significant role in that choice. This came after Majors lost his job with the PR agency The Lede Company, broke up with the fashion label Valentino, and missed out on a role in the feature film version of Walter Mosley’s suspense novel The Man in My Basement.
Since Majors’ arrest, a number of other directors and business executives have denounced the actor. A.B. Allen, the director of Your Turn and Uncle Frank, has even emphasised that remarks he made in February about “a particular actor… who, in actuality, is a vicious, cruel, abusive human being” were in fact directed at Majors. Broadway actor Tim Nicolai shared these opinions as well, calling Majors “a sociopath and abuser.”
Early in May, Majors’ defence lawyer Prija Chaudhry refuted the allegations made at a New York Criminal Court virtual court appearance. Chaudhry said that the revised claims were fabrications of the truth at the meeting, which was supposedly for a status conference about the charges against him and fresh information being presented by the district attorney on the case. The issue, according to Chaudhry, is a “witch hunt against Jonathan Majors, driven by baseless claims… To be clear, there are no new charges against Mr. Majors.” She also insisted that she and her team have video proof disproving such claims.
