The MCU’s Secret Invasion isn’t the first time Nick Fury has been unprepared

Spread MCU News

Nick Fury established himself as the most significant character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he initially debuted at the conclusion of Iron Man. This seemed more and more obvious up to The Avengers since he was aware of every weird event that happened in the globe, from Mjolnir’s landing on Earth to Steve Rogers’ reappearance. The man with eyes everywhere was unable to escape surprises as time passed, though. In fact, he nearly destroyed the planet with one of his worst errors. Nick Fury is followed in Secret Invasion after spending years away from Earth and after The Blip’s actions have altered him. But he tries to set such worries aside in order to defend his world from a covert Skrull invasion. But he could find use for the lessons he took away from Captain America: The Winter Soldier in the upcoming conflict.

After the Second World War, the Strategic Science Reserve was gradually transformed into S.H.I.E.L.D., and Arnim Zola, an ex-Hydra scientist, was hired to help with its expansion. However, Zola’s presence gave the organisation the chance to become corrupted by the remnants of Hydra. Meanwhile, other spies were hired, including Nick Fury, who had higher ideals. However, Fury’s principles also set him up for a serious fall, as his scepticism prompted S.H.I.E.L.D. to try to assassinate him. Fury, who was meant to be ahead of everyone around him, was ultimately deceived and made a fool of by people he trusted, to the point that he faked his own death in order to flee. Fury, who still had faith in S.H.I.E.L.D., set out to defend the world as best he could, first offering assistance where he could on Earth, and then founding S.A.B.E.R. as a brand-new organisation. Having said that, he could have been set up for a similar failure in Secret Invasion by the same things that failed him during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The idea of trust is emphasised in Secret Invasion, and it even becomes a weapon. Without it, Fury could lose close buddies for the greater good even if he may not know who the adversary is with it. However, the events leading up to The Winter Soldier demonstrated that trust had always been Fury’s worst vulnerability. Fury’s confidence in The Avengers is what made him fail to examine the usage of the Phase 2 weaponry. Additionally, trust permitted Project Insight to continue for as long as it did since the creator believed S.H.I.E.L.D. to be impervious to danger. Fury had a very small group of close pals, thus he ultimately took trust very seriously. But even so, he was able to put his faith in principles that ultimately let him down and would do so again in Secret Invasion when he finds out that some of his “friends” were hiding an extraterrestrial secret. Secret Invasion could provide Fury the push he needs to stop failing in his quest because of erroneous confidence in his opponents, though, since there is always opportunity to learn new things.
