Hugh Jackman’s claws are on display in new Deadpool 3 set photographs from Marvel Studios. The photographs, which were first posted by The Daily Mail, show Jackman’s Logan/Wolverine displaying his famous adamantium claws in a fight with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth. The images also provide a more thorough view of Jackman’s haircut, which includes his signature mutton chops.
These new set photographs come only days after Reynolds teased Jackman in a comic-accurate yellow-and-blue Wolverine outfit on social media. Many fans had hoped to see Jackman in the character’s famous suit after seeing it in a deleted scene from 2013’s The Wolverine. Many others, including Wolverine co-creator Roy Thomas, have gone to social media to express their thoughts on Jackman’s new face. Thomas’ manager, John Cimino, simply stated, “It’d be nice seeing something like Romita’s original costume on screen.” Romita’s initial design originally appeared during Wolverine’s cameo appearance at the conclusion of The Incredible Hulk in October 1974, before appearing on the cover of The Incredible Hulk in November, the character’s first complete appearance.
Additional Deadpool 3 set photographs and videos have now surfaced online, depicting Deadpool and Wolverine battling amid the ruins of 20th Century Fox, which is now a division of Walt Disney Studios. Many people believe Deadpool 3 will satirise the historic Disney/Fox merger in 2019, which placed icons like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four under the Marvel Studios banner. Various rumours have circulated regarding how Marvel would incorporate these characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s existing continuity. One such rumour links Deadpool and Wolverine’s MCU debut to Loki. According to this idea, Deadpool 3 takes place in the Loki series’ Void, a location at the end of time where the Time Variance Authority transfers the people they have pruned from the Sacred Timeline. Some have cited Mobius’ rumoured involvement in the film as proof of this idea. Marvel has yet to respond to the veracity of these accusations. Wolverine, as played by Hugh Jackman, isn’t the only member of Fox’s Marvel pantheon returning for Deadpool 3. Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner, is also set to feature in the picture, raising the possibility of a cameo from Ben Affleck’s Daredevil. Following the cancellation of his long-awaited standalone feature, Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as Gambit.
