The latest Spider-Man 2 teaser finally lets Venom loose on the streets of New York City. The teaser, which was shown as part of San Diego Comic-Con 2023, sets the setting for Peter Parker and his pals, adding Harry Osborne into the mix and heavily indicating that he will eventually transform into Venom. While the trailer shows new footage of Mary Jane Watson, Miles Morales, and even returning villain Martin Li aka Mr Negative, it ends with many glimpses of the gigantic symbiote putting down a chopper on his own. He jumps down to the streets after bashing through the front of the truck and lets out a guttural growl, expanding his jaws and showing his rows of fangs.
Venom has been a big part of Spider-Man 2’s promotion, with producer Insomniac Games supporting the recruitment of veteran actor Tony Todd to perform the monster’s voice. “Everything we talked about with Venom — that sense of strength, fear, overwhelming, so different from Peter,” senior creative director Bryan Intihar Intihar remarked. “Tony completely embraces that in the performance.” It is presently unknown who will wear the symbiote, although the teasers have lead many fans to assume Harry Osborn would be the host, which was first suggested by the post-credits sequence in Insomniac’s original Spider-Man.
Norman Osborn pays a visit to his son, who is imprisoned with a bottle of green liquid, promising to discover a treatment for a mystery sickness that appears to be threatening Harry’s life. A dark, ooze-like tendril attaches onto the interior of the container as Norman spends a touching moment with his child, implying that the Oscorp founder is seeking to use the symbiote to assist his son overcome his condition. Throughout Spider-Man 2, Miles and Peter will face up against a slew of villains, including Venom. Kraven the Hunter will also appear as a prominent opponent, embarking on a voyage to New York City in the hopes of confronting his most difficult hunt yet. The trailers have revealed that he is not alone, as he is accompanied by a small army of goons, trucks, and drones with which he intends to capture his prey, which also includes a transformed Dr. Curt Connors.
