Sony has announced a series of changes to its 2024 movie release schedule, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third film in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, originally scheduled for March 29, 2024, being removed from the schedule entirely for the time being. The alterations to the release schedule are owing to the film industry’s uncertainty as a result of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) both going on strike to protest the working conditions of both writers and actors. The film studios are beginning to change their release dates since there is a potential that the studios will not be able to fill out a normal yearly picture release schedule if the striking writers and actors cannot be reached in time.

According to reports, the film’s voice acting cast was unable to complete the dialogue recording before the current SAG-AFTRA strike began, and as a result of the union’s work stoppage orders, the voice cast is now unable to complete the conversation recording. As a result, the picture will not be able to meet its scheduled spring release date. According to a Sony insider, there will be a new set release date in the coming days, but if the voice acting ensemble really cannot finish recording the film, then any future intended release date would have to be highly uncertain.

The fascinating part of this delay is that an unknown insider on the film’s animation crew had previously said that the picture would never achieve its intended release date in the first place.

“They’ve announced that Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released in March of next year,” he said. “I’ve seen people say, ‘Oh, they probably worked on it at the same time.’ There’s no way that movie’s coming out then. There’s been progress on the pre-production side of things. But as far as the production side goes, the only progress that’s been made on the third one is any exploration or tests that were done before the movie was split into two parts.”

“Everyone’s been completely focused on Across the Spider-Verse and barely crossing the finish line,” he continued. And now it’s, ‘Oh, sure, now we have to do the second one.'” Recently, the film’s producers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, announced that they were willing to delay the film’s release to ensure that it was done properly, thus with potential delays already built into the scenario, it is unclear when this picture will be ready to be released.
