A MCU director plays coy about sequel rumours with Eternals 2

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been dominating the box office for over a decade, and its latest release, Eternals, is no exception. Despite mixed reviews, the film has been generating buzz, with rumors of a sequel in the works.

Director Chloé Zhao, however, seems to be playing coy on the subject, providing a “no comment” when asked about Eternals 2 in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. While her response could be interpreted as a sign of involvement, it’s also possible that she’s avoiding spoilers or simply not ready to discuss the project publicly.

Regardless, there are several factors to consider when speculating on what Eternals 2 could look like, from the film’s reception to the characters and storylines that could be explored.

Firstly, it’s important to note that Eternals’ mixed reviews don’t necessarily mean that a sequel is off the table. The MCU has proven time and time again that it can bounce back from critical disappointments (think Thor: The Dark World or Iron Man 2), and Eternals’ box office success is undeniable, with the film grossing over $400 million worldwide.

Additionally, Eternals introduced a whole new cast of characters to the MCU, including the powerful Eternals themselves and their arch-nemesis, the Deviants. The sequel could explore more of their backstory and relationships, with potential focus on the remaining Eternals as they navigate their newfound role on Earth.

One character that has generated particular interest is Dane Whitman, played by Kit Harington, who is revealed to be the human alter ego of the legendary Black Knight. His connection to the Eternals and potential romantic storyline with Gemma Chan’s Sersi could make for intriguing plot points in a sequel.

Furthermore, the mid-credits scene of Eternals introduces the concept of the “multiverse,” a plot device that is set to play a major role in the MCU’s future. Eternals 2 could delve deeper into this idea, potentially bringing in characters from other dimensions or exploring the consequences of meddling with the fabric of time and space.

Of course, all of these ideas are merely speculation at this point, and it remains to be seen if Eternals 2 will even come to fruition. However, the potential for new and exciting storylines and character arcs is undeniable, and fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting any news on the sequel’s development.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy the first installment of the cosmic franchise on Disney+, and perhaps reevaluate their opinions on the film. As Chloé Zhao stated, “it’s almost impossible to make everybody happy,” but that doesn’t mean that the Eternals don’t have more adventures in store.
