A Response from the New Fantastic Four Director to Those Crazy Casting Rumors

Spread MCU News

Matt Shakman, the director of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, addressed the speculation about the reboot’s roster. Who will be cast as Marvel’s First Family has been one of the hottest mysteries in Hollywood and among fans since since Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed the MCU reincarnation of the Fantastic Four. Unfortunately, viewers still don’t know the answer to it. The release date for Fantastic Four was moved to 2025, and Matt Shakman of WandaVision replaced Jon Watts as director. There is also uncertainty regarding whether John Krasinski will reprise his role as Mr. Fantastic in the reboot following his appearance as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The number of casting rumours has grown recently in the absence of any verified information, and Shakman has finally addressed them.

Director of the Fantastic Four Talks About the Casting Fever

According to Matt Shakman of the Fantastic Four, Marvel Studios “have nothing to announce right now,” so “all the casting stuff you see” is all hearsay and speculation.

“Everything you see about casting is just rumour. We have only just begun that process. Right now, we have nothing to share, but when we do, you can be sure we’ll let you know.

Regarding “all the casting things” that the public has witnessed, reports have varied from Marvel Studios casting John David Washington to Adam Driver, with Ryan Gosling being one of the most current. Future directing roles for Shakman are a topic of discussion as the internet keeps up its Fantastic Four watch. Marvel Studios is known for encouraging fresh talent, but the company also prefers to retain its filmmakers in-house, as was the case with the Russo Brothers and, most recently, Shang-Destin Chi’s Daniel Cretton. WandaVision was a big hit with both critics and fans.

Shakman confirmed that he is “still wrapping up the Godzilla project” for Apple TV+, but that following that, “Fantastic Four is pretty much [his] life” until it premieres:

“I doubt it, really. You know, I still have to finish the “Godzilla” project you mentioned. We have a few more months left in our current post regarding that. Up until Valentine’s Day in 2025, ‘Fantastic Four’ pretty much sums up my life.

Even though Matt Shakman and Marvel Studios claim to have “nothing to announce right now,” this does not imply that they don’t have anything in the works. Although the Fantastic Four is scheduled for a February 2025 release, principal filming should be finished by the end of 2024. Thus, if Marvel Studios and Shakman haven’t already cast the Fantastic Four, they must be quite close to doing so. The remake might start shooting at the end of this year or at the start of 2024 if it plans to follow the MCU’s established production calendar. If so, Feige and Shakman may decide to address the most important and amazing questions regarding the MCU during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Cinemas will screen Fantastic Four on February 14, 2025.
