Regarding his potential comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers, actor Chris Evans admits he has no more information than the fans. Evans appeared to bid adieu to the role of Steve after playing him in the Captain America films, as the character’s narrative appeared to come to a close in Avengers: Endgame. There have been fresh reports recently that Marvel Studios is planning an Avengers film that will bring the original cast members—Evan’s Captain America included—together. Evans was questioned about these reports of his comeback during an interview on Monday. He says that the rumours are not unusual and are untrue, adding that Marvel Studios hasn’t even been in touch with him yet regarding a possible comeback. Regarding the rumours, Evans remarked, “You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me.” “It seems like every few months, someone announces that everyone is returning, including Scarlet Johansson, Hemsworth, and Downey!… However, no one has discussed it with me. And look, I’m genuinely rather protective, even if I would never say never. I consider that function to be quite valuable, thus it must be ideal.
With Anthony Mackie assuming the title role in the next sequel Captain America: Brave New World, it appears that the MCU has gone on without Evans. Even while there is no indication that Evans’ Steve Rogers will be engaged with the movie, a surprise cameo by the character would not be expected. Evans has also appeared to move on, but based on his prior remarks, he has also left the door open for a potential comeback. The moment for a comeback “doesn’t quite feel right now,” he said to Variety earlier this year, but he wasn’t completely against it either because he thought there was still more to be discovered about his Steve Rogers. “Look, I really love that role, so it’s tough,” Evans remarked, acknowledging his concern about jeopardising his tenure in the position. “I truly do think the world of him. There must be more Steve Rogers tales to share, in my opinion. I really don’t want to screw it up in any way, though, because I was a part of something that was so great for the particular moment and in a sense, it really landed so perfectly. It’s like this little sparkly item that I have that I love so much.” What’s next for Evans? The actor, who most recently played alongside Emily Blunt in Pain Hustlers on Netflix, will join Dwayne Johnson and J.K. Simmons in the forthcoming action film Red One, which has a Christmas theme.
