The first featurette for Marvel Studios’ forthcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has been released as part of the WandaVision steelbook release, giving fans an inside peek at the Disney+ series. The video, which was posted on X, hinted to Kathryn Hahn’s eagerly awaited comeback as Agatha Harkness, which has been much awaited since her remarkable WandaVision series performance nearly four years ago. Chief writer and series creator Jac Schaeffer told the origin story of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries in it. A few of the cast members who will be making their debut appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone, were also given quick glimpses in the video.
Agatha: House of Harkness, the original title of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, was first revealed in November 2021. The project’s name has since been changed twice: from House of Harkness to Coven of Chaos to Darkhold Diaries. The most recent title can be related to Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in WandaVision, which Agatha/Agnes presented to the Book of the Damned. In Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Darkhold made a reappearance. Wanda used its eerie charms to locate the realm in which her boys lived. Agatha was put in a trance, where she stayed the comedy character Agnes, by Wanda as a punishment for her deceit and attempt to destroy her family during the WandaVision finale. The most recent summary for the spinoff states that the title cunning witch will ultimately defeat Wanda in the first episode. She is eager to return to her previous deadly methods but realises she is helpless. Her only option is to go out on a risky mission to regain her powers with the assistance of one or more unusual friends.”
Along with Plaza, Locke, LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Ali Ahn, the series will also include Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfied Ford, and Asif Ali as the returning Westview locals. According to reports, the Parks and Recreation veteran will portray Rio Vidal, who is said to be romantically involved with Agatha. Prior to joining the MCU series, Plaza talked candidly about her experience, calling it “the most elevated Marvel material that’s out there.” Joe Locke, who is expected to play Wanda’s adolescent son Billy/Wiccan, expressed in an earlier interview that he thought Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will have relatable themes. “Agatha: I am both nervous and afraid about Darkhold Diaries since it will be a beast of its own! In my opinion, Agatha holds greater significance than Heartstopper. I sincerely hope that people may relate to its topics,” he hinted.
