Among other things, Secret Invasion examines Nick Fury’s errors in great detail. After a lengthy hiatus, Samuel L. Jackson’s superspy finds his talents rusty and the enemy knocking on his door when he returns to Earth. After 30 years, the Skrull refugees he promised a home for have grown jaded and concluded that a world without humans will suit them just fine. Along with halting them, Fury is made to own his role in starting the conflict, which will undoubtedly have more ramifications as the series progresses. Carol Danvers stands out among all of this as a sort of unindicted co-conspirator. During the events of the upcoming Captain Marvel film, she and Fury both vowed to find the Skrulls a place to call home. However, she is off the globe and likely inaccessible now that the bill is due. As Fury stated, he must do the task by himself. However, later on, Captain Marvel’s involvement with the matter can come back to haunt her.
The Kree destroyed the Skrulls’ home world, and the survivors dispersed throughout the cosmos. In the first two episodes of Secret Invasion, Fury has posed some challenging questions regarding the occurrence, whose circumstances are still a little hazy. It does not, however, resolve the Skrulls’ predicament. Talos says that they are all now on Earth and have easily assimilated into all facets of culture. They acted in good faith and Fury employed them to assist with numerous spy operations. At least among the younger and more radical members, their patience has run out.
It’s difficult to argue that the rogue Skrulls have no reason, despite their terrifying objectives. The Blip, when Fury disappeared for five years and returned to discover The Marvel Cinematic Universe in an upended condition, at least in part contributed to his mental state. Talos and other people have made remarks about how he has changed when Thanos was vanquished. Withdrawing from society is a covert acknowledgment that he can’t fulfil his commitments to the Skrulls, making him scramble to contain the situation at precisely the wrong time.
Fury and Captain Marvel both made similar promises, however Captain Marvel was unaffected by The Blip. That afforded her a further five years to execute their pledge to the Skrulls in a galaxy that was nearly empty. Although she is one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is unknown what she was doing at that period. Nevertheless, she has plenty of problems to handle. In Avengers: Endgame, she tells Rhodey that “there are a lot of other planets in the universe, and unfortunately they didn’t have you guys.”
The Skrulls still have the same grudges against her that they do towards Fury, though. They somehow fell by the wayside in the face of other crises, and despite her great ability, Danvers is powerless to create more time or a brand-new world. It’s reasonable to assume that in the thirty years since she made good on her promise to the Skrulls, she has been actively saving lives and putting out fires. That doesn’t mean people won’t still hold her responsible for their predicament.
The Marvels will include Danvers again later in 2023, and the movie’s teaser shows Fury returning aboard the S.A.B.E.R satellite. By then, the Skrull threat should have been resolved (despite chronology considerations), but Captain Marvel’s trip back to Earth will still offer her the chance to reflect on her role in it all. As Peggy Carter puts it, “all we can do is our best.” Marvel’s heroes are never flawless. that Carol takes the same long, hard look in the mirror that he does, Fury’s involvement in Secret Invasion is sure to have an impact on The Marvels.
