Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 95th Academy Awards in March for her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever. To the chagrin of many admirers, she ultimately lost to Jamie Lee Curtis from Everything Everywhere All at Once. Bassett made history with the nomination, being the first member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to receive a significant Oscar nomination, even if she didn’t win Best Supporting Actress. Additionally, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Ramonda, the MCU’s first-ever first.

A lot of people praised Bassett’s portrayal in Wakanda Forever as her character fought to support her family after her son T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) unexpectedly passed away from an unknown disease at the beginning of the movie. Ramonda encountered several issues when removing Okoye (Danai Gurira) from the Dora Milaje. Additionally, she didn’t like how Namor (Tenoch Huerta) treated her daughter Shuri (Letitia Wright). subsequently on in Wakanda Forever, Ramonda is killed by Namor during a fight, but Ramonda subsequently makes an appearance from the Ancestral Realm to convince Shuri, the new Black Panther who took over from T’Challa, to refrain from exacting retribution.
