Ant-Man: Quantumania is set to introduce one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most powerful and enigmatic villains – Kang the Conqueror. While fans have already seen the character’s “comic booky” attire and helmet, new concept art reveals a spookier and more intense version of the villain.
The recently revealed concept art was created by artists who worked on Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania during the film’s development process. One piece of early concept art of Kang, created by Aleksi Briclot, shows the Conqueror staring intensely through a pair of unsettling eyes. Another keyframe, painted by Pietro Nume, shows Kang veiled in shadow, eyes aglow.
One of the paintings depicts Kang on the attack, descending from his Celestium to lay waste to the Quantum hordes with the aid of his Quantumnauts and Quantum army. Production designer Will Htay describes the piece as an “epic key frame concept.”
The concept art also reveals Kang standing in his damaged time chair after his crash in the Quantum Realm. Htay says that they went through a few versions of how Kang came to be there, and the design language for Kang was developed to bring order to the chaos.
Despite the spookier designs, Kang’s look in the film ultimately drew inspiration from the pages of the comics, which paid off well as many fans praised his appearance. However, with the newly revealed concept art, fans are left to wonder if this creepier version of the villain will ever make it onto the big screen.
Kang’s role in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania sets him up as the next big bad of the MCU. The character is plenty dangerous, and his suit grants him a variety of advanced abilities, including gravity manipulation and energy blasts. In the mid-credits scene of the film, hundreds of Kang Variants were shown, all hellbent on causing chaos.
Furthermore, the upcoming second season of Loki will feature a dangerous Kang called Victor Timely, indicating that the MCU has no shortage of Kangs with a vast array of different looks and designs.
In conclusion, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania has revealed new concept art for Kang the Conqueror that showcases a spookier version of the villain. While the film ultimately drew inspiration from the comics for his appearance, the concept art offers a glimpse into the development process and the various designs that were considered. With Kang set to be the next big bad of the MCU, fans are excited to see how his character will evolve and what other versions of the villain may emerge.
