Anthony Mackie, star of Captain America: Brave New World, criticizes Tom Holland for his earlier remark that there was “no Falcon movie”

Sam Wilson’s MCU major role in Captain America: Brave New World is the subject of a playful jibe from Captain America star Anthony Mackie directed at Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. The MCU tale of Sam Wilson started when the former pararescue pilot became Steve Rogers’ right-hand man. This quickly led to Wilson’s inclusion in the Avengers and demonstrated his ability to become the next Captain America. In Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson, who has given up and recovered the shield, must confront the greatest challenge of his heroic career in order to prove to the world why Steve Rogers chose him to wear the shield. Actor Anthony Mackie of Captain America talks about his friendly feud with Tom Holland, which began when the Spider-Man star made fun of the MCU’s lack of Falcon films, in an interview with Fandango about Captain America: Brave New World. Mackie claims that they have moved over their disagreements and playfully admits that Tom Holland was correct that there are no Falcon films. View the interview and read Mackie’s remarks below:

I have, however, had private conversations with Tom. We had a talk when I visited the UK, and I had to express my thoughts to him. After that, we got along well, drank some Bero Hero, and you know, chopped it up. And because he was right, I’m really interested to see how he feels about being made public. There was a Captain America movie instead of a Falcon movie. It wasn’t an intimate remark. It was a statement on a character. We discussed it. We discussed it. We’re doing well now.

At 2018’s ACE Comic Con, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland made light of Falcon’s dearth of MCU standalone films, and Anthony Mackie made a joke about not having watched Spider-Man: Homecoming at the moment. The actors who played Spider-Man and Falcon began a friendly quarrel as a result of this amusing back and forth, which mirrored the dynamics of their respective characters in Captain America: Civil War. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, years later, Anthony Mackie responded to Tom Holland by playfully shouting, “Yeah, Tom Holland, f**k you!” when he showed up to promote Captain America: Brave New World. In 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson played a minor supporting role, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man played a major part. Since Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are both ensemble films, Anthony Mackie will be the lone solo protagonist in the MCU’s 2025 film slate seven years later. In the meanwhile, Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, is at his lowest point after being erased from everyone’s memories, even the Avengers, by a memory-wiping spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, Mackie’s Captain America and Holland’s Spider-Man are probably going to be major characters. Since there is no recognized leader of the world’s heroes and no established Avengers team, Mackie’s Captain America would most likely organize Earth’s Greatest Heroes on his own. Under the leadership of the new Captain America, Spider-Man will most likely take the battle against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
