Apparently proceeding with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty even after Marvel fired Kang actor Jonathan Majors

Marvel fired Kang actor Jonathan Majors just hours after he was found guilty of assault and harassment, but the company still intends to proceed with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Majors plays the He Who Remains version of Kang in Loki season 1, marking his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Later, the actor portrayed a new version of Kang, Kang the Conqueror, in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Later, he returned to the part of He Who Remains in Loki season 2, when he played Victor Timely, another Kang figure. yet, Majors has been removed from the MCU after being found guilty on two misdemeanour charges of assault and harassment; yet, Marvel could decide to keep using Kang. After the studio parted relations with Majors, sources state that Marvel “intends to move forward with” Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Before Majors’ trial began on November 29, there were alterations made behind the scenes on the fifth Avengers film. Marvel Studios fired The Kang Dynasty director Destin Daniel Cretton in the middle of November, but he continued to work on other projects, including the Wonder Man television series. Michael Waldron, the screenwriter for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the creator of Loki, was just hired by Marvel to rewrite Avengers 5.

A significant creative makeover has probably been planned by the company for some time, judging by the changes Marvel made behind the scenes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, including firing the film’s director and hiring a new screenplay. It’s likely that Marvel Studios intends to recast Kang, and Waldron would be the ideal candidate to offer an explanation from within the MCU, having overseen the multiverse’s growth. As variations may have distinct appearances throughout the multiverse, as demonstrated by Loki season 1, Marvel could simply recast Majors as Kang and carry out their original plan. Beyond Marvel cutting ways with Majors, there’s another issue Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is facing, and that is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s failure. Critics gave the MCU Phase 5 launchpad mediocre reviews, which led to a disastrous box office performance. The tale of the Multiverse Saga may be rewritten to exclude Kang, according to reports that surfaced this autumn from Marvel Studios. There wasn’t much chance for the villain to get to the degree of a menace comparable to Thanos that would have required the formation of the Avengers because the film that was supposed to make his big-screen debut failed. The Kang Dynasty may undergo more changes than only having its primary antagonist recast if Marvel decides to completely break from the Kang family.

What happens to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still unknown. Although the film is not expected to be released until May 2025, Marvel hopes to begin production as early as 2024, thus the company will need to make changes to its original plans as soon as possible. Marvel may certainly postpone Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but the MCU runs the danger of neglecting their most successful property for an extended period of time given the gap of six years between Avengers films—the longest since the first film’s debut in 2012. Marvel may be pushing forward with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for the time being, but it’s still unclear precisely what they have planned for the film.
