Ayo Edebiri has found a new team to join after portraying one of the chefs behind a Chicago sandwich business in the FX series The Bear, according to insiders who spoke to 9to5 Marvel. She has boarded Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts in a new, top-secret role.
In addition to Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as the US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as the Taskmaster, Edebiri joins the cast that was previously revealed at Disney’s D23 event last year. It will premiere on July 26, 2024. Marvel declined to respond.
The latest Marvel tentpole’s director is confirmed to be Jake Schreier. Eric Pearson, who wrote the script for Black Widow, is writing the screenplay, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing. Little is known about the movie’s narrative, although like the comics, it centres on a crew of bad guys who are dispatched on government-commissioned missions. Edebiri’s first significant studio star role is in this project. She received a Critics Choice Award nomination for her performance as Sydney Adamu in The Bear and is anticipated to compete for this year’s Emmy. This summer, Season 2 will make its Hulu debut on FX.
On the movie front, she recently starred alongside Ben Platt in Theater Camp, which recently had its Sundance Film Festival premiere. The movie ended up being one of the larger sellers at the festival, and Searchlight was given distribution rights. She is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment.
