Simon Kinberg, the writer and producer of X-Men, recently discussed the priorities he feels Marvel Studios should have when reviving the cherished brand for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kinberg, who helmed Dark Phoenix and wrote/produced several X-Men movies between 2006 and 2019, stated in an interview that Marvel should consider character development while creating the future X-Men movie reboot. It is a pretty cliched statement, but it is true that the personalities are what make the X-Men so strong,” he stated when asked what advise he would give someone. As much as the books have fantastic narrative, a compelling storyline, and amazing action sequences, what really makes the X-Men stand out in my opinion is that they have the greatest cast of characters of any comic book ever. “So, the characters are really what will get you the best actors,” Kinberg went on. I just can’t wait to watch how those performers will bring those characters to life in a completely new way. I genuinely adore anything that Marvel does, and I am clearly a huge fan of the X-Men. similar to the Star Wars films. Growing up, I read two comics obsessively. I read others, but Batman and the X-Men were the main ones I was interested in.”

After Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, Marvel Studios once again obtained the rights to the X-Men film series. Characters like Professor X and Namor have since made appearances in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, respectively, marking the company’s gradual introduction of mutants into the MCU. It was also revealed that Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a mutant rather than an Inhuman. Even though Kamala’s transformation into a mutant caused controversy and rifts among the Marvel community, the comics continued to depict Ms. Marvel as a mutant a year later. It has been claimed that Marvel Studios has started scheduling meetings to receive writer proposals for their X-Men revival now that the Writers Guild of America strike has ended. Since the date of the X-Men relaunch is unknown, Marvel doesn’t seem to be in a rush to fill the role, but the post will probably be filled by the end of 2024. Although Wolverine is supposedly not in the running to make an appearance, it is uncertain as of this writing which beloved mutants the reboot will centre around. The popular character Logan/Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in the 20th Century Fox films, will return in Deadpool 3 and potentially Avengers: Secret Wars.
