Black Panther spinoff on Disney+ receives a new working title

Disney+’s highly anticipated Black Panther spin-off series is in the works, and fans have been eager for any updates on the project. Now, a new rumor has seemingly revealed the working title for the series set in the kingdom of Wakanda. According to an exclusive report from The Cosmic Circus, one of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther Disney+ spin-off series is being developed with the working title of Golden City.

The production company responsible for the spin-off, Maglev Train Productions, was first registered in Summer 2021. The company takes its name from the Maglev Train system that runs underneath Wakanda, and the Golden City is the name of Wakanda’s capital city, founded by the Golden Tribe, also known as Birnin Zana.

It’s important to note that Marvel Studios often operates under unique production companies for each of its projects, and the working titles given to these projects usually have little relation to the final product. However, the working title for the Black Panther spin-off being Golden City does offer some clues as to what the series might explore.

The Golden Tribe was first formed around Bashenga, the first Black Panther and King of Wakanda. Many fans have been calling for Bashenga to lead his own Disney+ prequel series, and impressive fan-made concept art featuring Star Wars’ John Boyega as Bashenga went viral a few months ago. It remains to be seen if the Golden Tribe or Bashenga will be featured in the spin-off, but the working title certainly leaves room for speculation.

Previous reports revealed that Marvel Studios and Proximity Media, director Ryan Coogler’s production company, are developing multiple spin-offs for streaming. Ironheart, a direct sequel to Black Panther 2, is set to come first, with at least two more series expected to follow, including one exploring more of Wakanda and an “origin spin-off series” for Danai Gurira’s Okoye.

It’s unclear what the Black Panther Disney+ spin-off series will be about, but fans are excited to see what the creative minds at Marvel Studios have in store. With Coogler’s focus having been on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the spin-off has been revealed to be “not as far along as people want it to be,” but it’s clear that there are some great ideas being discussed.

Despite the working title for the spin-off being Golden City, fans shouldn’t take it as a guarantee that the capital city will be a focus. Marvel Studios’ projects have operated under some strange working titles over the years, and the true premise of the series has yet to be fully decided.

At this point, Black Panther’s Disney+ spin-off series has yet to set a release date. However, fans are eagerly anticipating any updates on the project and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the kingdom of Wakanda.
