Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television and Animation, reflects on the conclusion of the animated anthology series “What If…?” and the exciting prospects for 2025. Winderbaum notes that while “What If…?” could have continued exploring numerous alternate realities, the decision to end the series was driven by the needs of the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the Multiverse Saga. He explains, “This was the right time to culminate the series from a story perspective,” indicating that future MCU narratives will clarify this timing.

Winderbaum also shares insights gained from Marvel Studios’ television ventures since their debut on Disney+ in 2021. He emphasizes the importance of storytelling that resonates with audiences, rather than attempting to create universally appealing content. “The most important thing we can do as a studio is tell stories that resonate with people,” he says. Winderbaum believes that if a show can deeply connect with even one fan, the studio has succeeded in its mission.

Looking forward to 2025, Marvel Television is set to launch several highly anticipated series. The return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in “Daredevil: Born Again” is a major highlight, alongside the integration of Netflix’s former Marvel series into the MCU canon. Winderbaum also previews other new animated series, describing “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” as a fun, high-stakes adventure, “Daredevil: Born Again” as a grounded, street-level story with social commentary, “Eyes of Wakanda” as a tale of conquest and national identity, and “Marvel Zombies” as a sprawling adventure with a global backdrop.

In addition to these new series, Winderbaum addresses the future of non-Daredevil characters from Netflix’s Marvel shows, such as Jessica Henwick’s Colleen Wing, and teases what’s next for Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. He expresses excitement about Kamala’s potential future appearances, stating, “She is top of mind. It’s going to be exciting to see where she pops up next.” This hints at significant plans for the beloved character in upcoming MCU projects.
