An improved image of the live-action Prowler outfit created for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been released by costume designer Trayce Gigi Field. In the movie, Spider-Man Miles Morales visits the Spider-Society’s headquarters and sees several bad guys who have been exiled from their home universes. A live-action version of Miles’ uncle, Aaron Davis, sometimes known as the Prowler, who is portrayed by actor Donald Glover, is also included. Field posted pictures of the scene and one of Glover wearing his Prowler costume—a costume she co-designed with Vanessa Mi Kyung Lee—on Instagram. Making the outfit, according to the latter, “was a super rush and a fun and exciting project.”

Glover has a personal connection to the Spider-Man canon and shares some of the credit for the creation of Miles Morales. He backed a fan movement in 2011 that pushed for him to play Spider-Man Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, but Andrew Garfield ended up getting the starring part. However, the comedy series Community, in which Glover appeared, made homage to the fan effort by dressing Troy Barnes in a pair of Spider-Man pyjamas for a sequence. After the campaign, author Brian Michael Bendis debuted Miles Morales in the Marvel’s Ultimate Universe and said of the aforementioned Community scene, “It made me feel like we were on the right track,”.

The Community sequence from the previous Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) is playing in Aaron Davis’ flat as a tribute to Glover. Although Miles and his uncle aren’t voiced by Glover in the Spider-Verse movies, he has performed both roles in earlier works. Glover portrayed a live-action Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and provided the voice of Miles Morales in the Disney XD animated series Ultimate Spider-Man. As of this writing, it is unclear whether Glover’s Prowler from Across the Spider-Verse is the same Aaron Davis from the MCU.

In a standalone movie based in Sony’s Spider-Man world, Glover will portray Hypno-Hustler, a different Spider-Man character from both the Spider-Verse and the MCU. Glover will both star in and produce the project, according to press reports from December 2022. In 1978’s Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #24, Bill Mantlo and Frank Springer jointly invented Hypno-Hustler, a villain who can hypnotise people using music. Given that Sony’s Spider-Man world makes an appearance in Across the Spider-Verse owing to a cameo by Mrs. Chen (Peggy Lu) from the Venom movie, it looks that the door is open for Hypno-Hustler to appear in the next sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
