Although Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, hasn’t been officially confirmed for Captain America: New World Order, a recent rumour hinted at how he’ll be used in the MCU sequel. Stan’s MCU future has been mostly a mystery since he co-starred with Anthony Mackie in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. Thankfully, Stan is confirmed for another MCU cameo in Thunderbolts once Captain America 4 arrives in cinemas in the spring of 2024, playing a more heroic role alongside an unusual band of misfits in what is presently scheduled as the final film of Phase 5. After their work on Disney+, the actor made a joke about “needing some time away from Anthony (Mackie).” However, there is definitely reason to believe that they will work together again in the upcoming Captain America standalone film.
In the next Captain America: New World Order film from Marvel Studios, Sebastian Stan will return as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes is anticipated to make a brief cameo in Captain America 4 despite the fact that he wasn’t officially revealed as a cast member at the D23 Fan Expo, according to the website’s reliable sources. Prior to entering Thunderbolts, he will supposedly only appear in one or two sequences in the film, however it was also stated that a rewrite was filed close to the start of the new year. This implies that while Bucky’s part is likely to be in the film in some way, it is possible for it to grow or shrink in scope.
Captain America 4: What Role Does Bucky Play?
Alongside Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier as they travelled across the post-Avengers: Endgame reality, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier allowed Anthony Mackie to fully complete his transformation from the Falcon into Captain America in all but one episode. And even though that series came to a close with Bucky finally embracing his history and moving on from it, it looks like he won’t be too closely associated with his companion in the upcoming adventure. Sam and Bucky don’t share the same history that Bucky and Steve Rogers had in Phase 1 because their collaboration only began in Captain America: Civil War. Therefore, it makes some sense that Stan won’t be as intimately associated with Mackie’s hero in Captain America 4. He could only appear during a few significant scenes as Sam faces his most recent difficulties. While Bucky won’t appear much in this upcoming film, Thunderbolts will alter that by giving him his first main role since his Disney+ programme in 2021. And with that in the works, he will continue to play an important role in the MCU for at least the foreseeable future.
On May 3, 2024, Captain America: New World Order will make its theatrical premiere.
