This year’s Golden Globes include a touching reunion between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who last appeared together on film in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. A number of characters are returning to the MCU when Phase 5 continues with further Marvel films in 2025. Although Bucky Barnes is appearing in the Thunderbolts* film, Sam Wilson will be the main character in Captain America: Brave New World. However, it is currently unknown when the two heroes will be on the same screen once more. After winning a Golden Globe for his main performance in the 2024 film A Different Man, Sebastian Stan took part in a number of backstage interviews, some of which were interrupted by Anthony Mackie, another veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This seemed to acknowledge the moment Stan had with Josh Horowitz on the red carpet, when he joked, “I don’t know who Anthony is,” when asked which movie the reporter should see between Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World.
Following Mackie and Stan’s Golden Globe moments together, it once again demonstrates how the MCU has forged some amazing friendships over the years, particularly as more Marvel Studios films and television shows have been released. There is a clear explanation for Bucky and Sam’s separation, since they are at different stages of their life, which will be examined in this year’s Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World. But the wait until their impending reunion in the MCU feels too lengthy after witnessing their amazing chemistry in these few moments. Stan and Mackie’s bond is very real off-screen, as seen by their Golden Globes performances, even though they haven’t had the opportunity to act together in an MCU film or television program since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier concluded.
