For a few weeks, there have been rumours that the Serpent Society will make its MCU debut in Captain America: New World Order. Now, we have further information, including confirmation of one Serpent Society member!
Marvel Studios had a gathering in 2014 when they revealed the grand Phase 3 slate to the public. When it was revealed that Captain America: Civil War will be arriving in 2016, the first announcement of Captain America: Serpent Society’s 2016 release date was quickly shown to be a misdirection.
Of course, we had no complaints, but the Serpent Society has yet to make an appearance in the MCU.
Following comments from a trustworthy scooper on social media, that now appears likely to alter in Captain America: New World Order. Diamondback is reportedly the team’s first “confirmed” member, and given the time of this discovery, we’re wondering if Xosha Roquemore would be portraying Diamondback in the film.
Although many of you may read “Diamondback” and picture the evil brother from Luke Cage’s Netflix series, it is clear that this is the Rachel Leighton version that was initially published in Captain America in 1985.
The Serpent Society is a gang of villains with snake-themed attire that have tormented Steve Rogers for years. We hope they do better than The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s Flag-Smashers since we’re a bit surprised they’ll be in a movie that’s already looking rather packed.
As course, Marvel Studios has not confirmed any Serpent Society intentions, so for the time being this is simply a rumour.
The cast of Captain America: New World Order also includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Shira Haas as Sabra, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Harrison Ford as General “Thunderbolt” Ross, Tim Blade Nelson as The Leader, and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America.
The film is directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman. On May 3, 2024, Captain America: New World Order is scheduled for cinema release.
If the name Diamondback is recognisable, it may be because a Diamondback appeared in the Netflix series Luke Cage. That Diamondback, played by Willis Stryker, is not the same character as the one Captain America 4 is currently casting.
This Diamondback is probably Rachel Leighton, a morally dubious Serpent Society member from the comics. Rachel has been a part of Evil Girls, Inc., the Secret Avengers, and Camp HAMMER, switching sides and allegiances in each, going back and forth between good person and bad guy.
She formerly had an affair with Steve Rogers in the comics, and more recently, she made an appearance in a narrative starring Sam Wilson, the current Captain America. She appears in the New World Order narrative, which introduces the Serpent Society as a whole and suggests a prospective love interest for Sam. Regardless, the 2024 movie appears to have more than one villain because the Leader has been formally announced and Diamondback has been widely reported.
