Charlie Cox, actor of Daredevil: Born Again, views himself as a long-term member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Matt Murdock of the MCU teases a future beyond the impending Phase Five television series. Cox talked about his plans for the MCU in an interview, as well as how he got ready for Born Again, the Netflix adaptation of Daredevil. While preparing to take on the role again, Cox acknowledged that Born Again is a “physically demanding show” and said he underwent shoulder surgery during the Hollywood strikes of the previous year. He did, however, convey his admiration for the show and his desire to portray the title character for an extended period of time. “I know there will be a day when I can no longer do it. For now, though, let’s simply keep loving what we do and doing the best we can. I’m really appreciative that I can keep producing the program, and maybe we have another ten years ahead of us,” he remarked.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who will also play Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the upcoming Born Again movie on Netflix, spoke with Cox. Cox said that although the two frequently worked together throughout the creative process, they don’t share many sequences. D’Onofrio insisted that the most recent Born Again teaser will demonstrate how much he enjoys playing the main character, despite Cox’s remarks on the physical challenges of the film’s development. “You’re not going to believe anything he just told you because he’s really good,” stated D’Onofrio.

After portraying the title lawyer-turned-vigilante in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo, where he faced off against Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez in the first episode, Born Again is Cox’s third appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Behind-the-scenes worries over the show’s productivity led to a creative makeover, bringing in new writers and directors. After many delays, the filming of Born Again concluded in April, and an update later confirmed a new release timeline for the MCU series. In Born Again, Cox co-stars with D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Franklin “Foggy” Nelson), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Mariana-Fisk), and Michael Gandolfini (Daniel Blade). Cox is anticipated to return to the series as Maya/Echo. Eighteen episodes total, split into two halves of nine episodes each, will make up the MCU’s Daredevil season. In the episode, Daredevil and Kingpin set aside their animosity in order to aid the people of New York, only to have their pasts come back to haunt them.
